5 Second Summary:
Source Herschel backpacks, Coach Tabby bags and Von Dutch trucker hats this week. Stop sourcing canvas totes. Use “Western Boots” instead of “Cowboy Boots” in your titles.
THE LEAD · BRAND BOLO
The Von Dutch trucker hat is up 400%.
If you have been walking past Von Dutch because you assume the Y2K wave was already over, check the rack again.
Google search data shows Von Dutch at 301,000 searches a month in June. Last June it was 165,000. That is up 82%, and it has held between 246,000 and 301,000 every month since January. The brand climbed, found a new floor, and stayed on it.
Do not read that as a Y2K recovery. The label is not one trade. Google search data shows Juicy Couture velour tracksuit up 513% over the same twelve months, while Ed Hardy sits at 246,000 and down 18%. Three Y2K brands, three different directions. The aesthetic tells you nothing on its own. You have to check the brand.
And inside Von Dutch, one item is carrying the move.
Google search data shows Von Dutch trucker hat at 40,500 searches a month, up from 8,100 last June. That is up 400%, and June is the highest month in the series we hold. The generic version, Von Dutch hat, is at 33,100 and down 18% over the same period. Buyers are not searching for a Von Dutch anything. They are searching for the hat.
The series is jumpy and that is worth saying out loud. It ran to 22,200 last July, fell back to 5,400 in February, and has only been climbing for two months. But it is already well clear of last summer's peak, and the trucker hat is the piece this brand is known for.
One thing before you list these. Google search data shows “vintage von dutch” at 320 searches a month against 301,000 for the brand on its own. The same gap shows up on every “vintage” pairing we track. That word is taking a title slot and giving nothing back.
THE MOVE
Source Von Dutch mesh back trucker hats. Embroidered logo front panel. Title them Von Dutch trucker hat. Brand first, product type second, and leave the word vintage off it.
The Board
Four signals. Google search data, June 2026.
SIGNAL 01 · BACK TO SCHOOL
Herschel backpacks triple in July and die in September.
Google search data shows Herschel Supply Co Backpack at 49,500 searches a month, up from 40,500 last June. The year over year number is small enough to ignore. The calendar is the whole story.
Last year this keyword went 40,500 in June, 110,000 in July, 135,000 in August. Then straight back to 40,500 in September. It more than tripled in eight weeks and gave all of it back in one month.
This year it is already more popular than it was last year.
These are parents and students with a date on the calendar. That is the cleanest demand there is, and it has a hard expiration date.
THE MOVE
Source Herschel backpacks now. Little America, Retreat, Heritage. List them ASAP to get the most back-to-school buyer demand.
SIGNAL 02 · COACH

Google search data shows Coach Tabby at 165,000 searches a month. Last June it was 40,500. That is up 307%, and it has not printed below 110,000 since November. The February reading of 301,000 is an outlier and this call does not rest on it.
A buyer typing Coach Tabby already knows the silhouette and already knows the price. That buyer is not browsing.
THE MOVE
Source Coach Tabby shoulder bags and the Tabby 26. Put the model name in the title, not just Coach. Coach on its own drops you into a pile of generic competition.
SIGNAL 03 · STOP SOURCING
Canvas totes are collapsing inside their own peak window.
Google search data shows canvas tote bag at 40,500 searches a month, down from 110,000 last June. That is down -63%.
The timing is what matters. Last year this term peaked in August at 246,000. This year it went 110,000 in April, 74,000 in May, 40,500 in June. It is falling through the exact stretch it climbed last year.
That is not a seasonal dip. A seasonal dip comes back on schedule. This one skipped its season entirely.
THE MOVE
Stop sourcing canvas totes. Leave them in the bins.
SIGNAL 04 · RETITLE
Cowboy Boots Is Losing to Western Boots.
If you have cowboy boots sitting in your store right now, update your titles.
Google search data shows cowboy boots at 201,000 searches a month, down from 301,000 last June. That is down 33%. Over the same twelve months Google search data shows western boots at 60,500, up from 33,100. That is up 83%.
The category is not shrinking. The word is changing. And western boots gets much bigger later in the year. Last October it ran to 135,000, which means it is sitting at a summer floor right now, well above where it sat last summer.
THE MOVE
Retitle your cowboy boots listings to lead with western boots. Keep cowboy boots in the item specifics. Simple keyword swap!
And now you know.
